Mount Moresby Adventure Camp Dock Repair

Over the last couple of months Taan Forest Ltd. (Taan) and their contractors have been partnering with the coordinators of the Mount Moresby Adventure Camp (MMAC) to plan upgrades at the grounds which include the following:

  • Repairs to the access road into the Adventure Camp;

  • Clean out log debris from around end of causeway;

  • Repairs to the eroding causeway;

  • Install crib work at end of causeway to maintain causeway elevation;

  • Replace the decrepit dock to swimming platform; and

  • Tied the new walkway into cribbed causeway.

MMAC is a youth camp on the shores of Mosquito Lake, located on the southern tip of Moresby Island, that delivers outdoor learning on Haida Gwaii. Mount Moresby and its surrounding area are known for their natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.

On May 5th, two Taan staff members along with two employees of MP Falling volunteered to clear off the causeway to the walkway and dock. Once cleared, the crews set up the old walkway to access the swimming platform until a new walkway is installed. The youth can now use the current causeway and dock for activities like canoeing, kayaking, and swimming during camp.

The installation of the new walkway is on hold pending materials to make minor repairs. The goal is to have this project completed by mid-June.
